Obituary

Orlie C. Uttech
Campobello, SC

Orlie Carl Uttech, 97, of 140 Burgess Loop, passed away Saturday, November 18, 2017, at Smith Phayer Hospice House in Landrum, South Carolina. Orlie was born in Lebanon, Wisconsin on July 20, 1920, a son of the late Max and Frieda Hackbarth Uttech. He was the widower of Lorraine Adeline Zickert Uttech. Orlie was a United States of America Army veteran, having served during WWII in both the European African- Middle Eastern Theater and Asiatic Pacific Theater. He had a long career in law enforcement in Juneau, Wisconsin for Dodge County. This included dispatcher, traffic officer, Under-Sheriff, Sheriff, the Chief of Police. He also owned the Skyline Drive-in for several years and his wife Lorraine and children all worked there. He was a part-time substitute rural mail carrier and that turned into full time when he retired with the police department. Somehow he also found time to occasionally drive a school bus. After his retirement with the post office, he and Lorraine ran the community center in Juneau. They then sold their home in Juneau and moved to their lake house outside of Phillips, Wisconsin, where they spent the next twenty years. He enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, Packer games and traveling. Orlie enjoyed his grandchildren when they visited them on the lake, providing lots of boat rides, bon fires and scavenger hunts. In 2005 they moved south to be close to daughter Joy and son-in-law Rich. In 2008, Orlie moved in with them. A life-long Lutheran, his final church was Trinity Lutheran Church in Tryon, North Carolina. He was an avid audio book "reader", and up until two years ago took a daily walk. If he ever got angry, he never showed it. He was a kind and gentle man. He will be missed.
Orlie is survived by two daughters, Jill Pitzlin and her husband, Mark of Martinez, California; Joy Ruebush and her husband, Richard of Campobello, South Carolina; two sons Mitchell Uttech and his wife, Cathy of Steamboat Springs, Colorado; Ricky Uttech, of Oconomowoc, Wisconsin; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Uttech was pre-deceased by six brothers and five sisters
A Memorial Service will be held at 4:30 PM, Friday, December 8, 2017, at Seawight Funeral Chapel, Inman, South Carolina, conducted by Pastor Thomas Olson. A visitation will immediately follow the service at Seawright Funeral Home.
